In less than two years, the project gained traction and saw use in production use cases. #### 2020 Sedona entered the Apache Software Foundation. It provides support for both Apache Spark and Apache Flink as well as enables users to develop their spatial data processing jobs using Spatial SQL and Spatial Python. #### 2022 Jia and Mo saw modern analytics engines providing incomplete support for spatial data. In June of 2022, they founded Wherobots to bring first-class support for spatial data and compute in the cloud. #### 2023 Wherobots launched SedonaDB and Wherobots Cloud in October 2023, making Sedona’s spatial analytics technology available as a serverless cloud solution. #### 2024 Apache Sedona reaches over 40 million in downloads, 200% growth with over 2 million a month. The team raises its Series-A funding round and expands the product offering to include Wherobots Raster Inference (now RasterFlow), integrations of WherobotsDB with the Spatial API and SDK. Delivers integration with AWS marketplace for easy adoption for Amazon customers. #### 2025 Wherobots led the standardization of spatial data in the Lakehouse by driving GEO support for Apache Iceberg and Parquet. The Apache Sedona community launched SedonaDB, and saw downloads soar past 62 million. The Wherobots team released WherobotsDB 2.0, achieving up to 7x query acceleration. New integrations with Databricks Unity Catalog and Amazon S3, alongside the launch of the Wherobots MCP server, established the foundation for AI-driven spatial intelligence. #### 2026 Wherobots has enabled full AI orchestration of the physical world, allowing LLMs to execute complex data engineering workflows via the integration of the MCP server, CLI and Spatial AI coding tools. With RasterFlow generally available, the platform expands its ecosystem with deeper developer tooling for VS Code and broader Spark environment support, making spatial data engineering fully accessible to AI agents. ![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/themes/wherobots/blocks/timeline//img/team-background-desktop.svg) ![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/themes/wherobots/blocks/timeline//img/team-background-tablet.svg) ![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/themes/wherobots/blocks/timeline//img/team-background-mobile.svg) ## Executive Team ![Mo Sarwat](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Mo-Profile.jpg?ver=1791575225) Mo Sarwat Co-Founder & CEO [![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/x-1.svg?ver=1791575225)](https://x.com/MoSarwat) [![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/linkedin-1.svg?ver=1791575225)](https://www.linkedin.com/in/mosarwat/) ![Jia Yu](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/WechatIMG1013-low-res-1-e1720061402788.jpg?ver=1791575225) Jia Yu Co-founder & chief architect [![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/x-1.svg?ver=1791575225)](https://x.com/JiaYu_JY) [![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/linkedin-1.svg?ver=1791575225)](https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-jia-yu/) ![Damian Wylie](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/2024_05_Wherbots_10736_Damian3a.jpg?ver=1791575225) Damian Wylie Head of Product [![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/x-1.svg?ver=1791575225)](https://twitter.com/damianwylie) [![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/linkedin-1.svg?ver=1791575225)](https://www.linkedin.com/in/wyliedamian/) ![Ben Pruden](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Profile-scaled.jpg?ver=1791575225) Ben Pruden Head of Marketing [![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/x-1.svg?ver=1791575225)](https://x.com/ben_pruden) [![](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/linkedin-1.svg?ver=1791575225)](https://www.linkedin.com/in/benpruden/) Backed by their unwavering support, we’re empowered to push the boundaries of geospatial technology and deliver groundbreaking solutions to the world. ![Felicis Ventures logo](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Felicis.png?ver=1791575225) Aydin Senkut Felicis ![clear](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/clear-1.svg?ver=1791575225) Chris Rust Clear Ventures ![wing](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/wing-1.svg?ver=1791575225) Peter Wagner Wing VC ![Prosperity 7 Ventures color logo](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/P7-ventures-logo-color-1.png?ver=1791575225) Abhishek Shukla Prosperity7 ![jetBlue technology ventures logo](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/jetblue-technology-ventures-logo-silicon-valley.png?ver=1791575225) Ryan Chou JetBlue ![Wherobots Logo](https://wherobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Logo-1.svg?ver=1791575225) ## Get Connected with Us Our philosophy is simple — hire a team of diverse, passionate people and foster a culture that empowers you to do your best work.
